“Prayers for America” is a movement inspired by JoAnne Von Zwehl’s painting. This beautiful image of Mary with the American flag as her mantle calls us, the Salesian Sisters and the many children and young people whom we serve, to offer prayers for our country and our world.
We can almost hear her singing the words “God bless America”, forming a beautiful prayer. Mary, under the title of the Immaculate Conception, is the official patron of the United States.
Ms.Von Zwehl’s interpretation of Jesus’ mother depicts her embracing America, holding her close. Mary also holds the cross in her hands while lifted in prayer. The artist reminds us here that Mary offers intercessory prayer to her Son, our Savior, for us.
We join her in prayer for peace and for all those who serve protecting that peace as well as their families. We pray especially for those who have paid the ultimate price and all who love them.
We invite you to join “Prayers for America”. Send us your prayer intentions, thoughts, and/or pictures. It is your pledge of prayer that is important. “Where two or more are gathered in My Name, there I am in the midst of them.” (Mt18:20) So let us gather daily in prayer before the throne of God and unite asking for the Lord’s peace and protection.
By joining the “Prayers for America” movement you will receive a prayer card with the beautiful image of Our Lady, Queen of America, which we ask you to pray daily. Carry it in your wallet, paste it to your mirror, or place it by your telephone.
You will also receive a quarterly newsletter prepared by the children of the Salesian Schools in the Western USA.
